Bourbon ratings can be a bunch of
bunk. They might be influenced by
connections in the business, some are planted by marketers, and ultimately even
the legitimate reviews are inherently subjective because they’re based on our
own preferences. My reviews will only
have this last fault.
I decided to avoid the 100-point
scales because every bourbon seems to score in a 15-point range anyhow. More important, I decided to keep it
simple. The Sipp’n Corn Scale uses a
5-point progression that doesn’t get caught up in analysis of color / nose /
taste / finish. Instead, after
considering those traditional traits, I just get to the bottom line.
Please use the scale and let me
know how the bourbon in your glass scores!
The Sipp’n Corn
Scale:
1 – Wouldn’t even accept a free
drink of it.
2 – Would gladly drink it if
someone else was buying.
3 – Glad to include this in my bar.
4 – Excellent bourbon. Worth the price and I’m sure to always have
it in my bar.
5 – Wow. I’ll search high and low to get another
bottle of this.
